A Guide to Exploring the History, Culture, and Nature of Canton, Michigan

Canton, Michigan, is located in Northwest Wayne County and is one of the fastest-growing communities in the region. With a blend of tradition, culture, and natural beauty, it is no surprise that this vibrant city is becoming an increasingly popular destination for families and businesses alike. Founded in 1834, Canton, Michigan, was initially home to a small settlement of Potawatomi and Huron villages. The first settler was William Durham, and the town was named after Canton, Ohio. Founded in 1989, the museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts from the area’s past, including early photographs and maps. With more than 20 parks surrounded by flowing rivers, lakes, woods, and wetlands, outdoor enthusiasts can explore a myriad of outdoor activities. Preservation Park protects more than 500 wetland acres, allowing visitors to go birdwatching, canoeing, and fishing in their immense and diverse ecological system. With two ice hockey rinks and two ice skating rinks, the city’s renowned Arctic Edge Ice Arena is a prime destination for winter sports.
