Discovering Livonia, the Detroit Suburb with a Lot to Offer

Livonia, Michigan, is a small suburban city located just 15 miles from downtown Detroit. It’s the ninth most populous city in the state and is a great place to live for commuters who want to live close to the city but still enjoy a small-town atmosphere. Here’s a closer look at this Detroit suburb and all that it has to offer. Livonia was founded in 1834, just eight years after Michigan became a state. Livonia was initially called Livonia Township and was a rural agricultural area with a population of just 510. It was established to meet the needs of a growing population and quickly became a popular place to live. Over the years, the city grew, and in 1950, the township became a city. Livonia is located in the western part of Wayne County, making it a great location for commuters who want to be close to Detroit but still enjoy a small-town atmosphere. It’s conveniently located near major highways, making it easy to get around by car. There are also several major airports in the area, including Detroit Metropolitan Airport, which is only 20 miles away. Livonia is home to several large retail centers and malls, including Laurel Park Place, the Wonderland Shopping Mall, and the Livonia Towne Center. There are also many local shops and restaurants along the main street in downtown Livonia. Some popular restaurants include InYoFresco Pizza and Subs, Garden Fresh Sushi, and Simitcrust, a Turkish-style bakery. In addition to its shopping and dining, Livonia offers plenty of entertainment options. The Laurel Park Place shopping mall is home to a 20-screen movie theater, which shows all of the latest films. There are also several outdoor activities in the area, including tranquil trails, golf courses, playgrounds, and parks for the whole family to enjoy. Broadway Park is a great place to kayak, fish, or paddleboard in the summer months or just have a picnic in the lush park.  Livonia offers families top-notch schools, with some of the highest-ranking schools in the state. Livonia Public Schools is a top-ranking school district and serves more than 20,000 students. The district is known for its supportive learning environment and offers a variety of programs, including early childhood education, advanced learning programs, and innovative technology offerings. Livonia is also home to Madonna University, a private Catholic school that offers more than 40-degree programs.
